- Grade School Teacher
Kathy Matlin has been teaching for 24 years. She graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a K-9 degree in education. She received her Waldorf certification from Emerson College in England. She completed the Teaching Sensible Science Course with a renewed appreciation for sensory based learning. Kathy began teaching at CWS, where she took a class from 4th through 8th grade. She and her husband then moved to Baltimore, Maryland to start a new business venture. While there, she taught at the Baltimore Waldorf School and worked with a large group of Jewish Orthodox, homeschooling families. Before returning to Chicago in 2000, they adopted their son Theo, a cellist and future pilot. Kathy was the founding teacher of the grades program at the Da Vinci Waldorf School, where she taught multi-level grades (with a focus on middle school) for 13 years. While there, she served as the Faculty Chair, Grades Chair, and on the Board of Trustees for most of her tenure. She is very excited to return to Chicago Waldorf School as the seventh grade teacher in the fall of 2016.
