- Grade School Teacher
A Green Bay, Wisconsin native, Karen Hartz received a BA in English and Secondary Education from the College of St. Teresa in Winona, MN. Theater and service work were extra curricular hallmarks of her college years. She has taught in a variety of public and private high schools.
She discovered Waldorf education 12 years ago when seeking a holistic education for her son. After joining several study groups to learn more about Steiner’s foundational philosophies, Karen began her teacher training. At the Prairie School in Pewaukee, WI, she had the opportunity to be a full-time assistant for a class of 30 students led by a master teacher. One year later she was asked to lead a sixth grade class. Since then Ms. Hartz has taught four middle grades Waldorf classes and has enjoyed every minute of it. Aside from teaching, her favorite past-times are gardening, knitting (though she is a beginner), walking with Rex—her Cairn Terrier, theater, cooking, and making her 15 year old son laugh.
