Dean started his academic career studying studio art but turned to math in his mid-twenties. He worked primarily in an industrial labratory while he began tutoring and teaching acquaintances and their children. These were people who wanted to prepare for upcoming academic challenges or enhance their understanding of mathematics. Dean experienced such deep satisfaction in serving his students that he decided to teach Math as his next career step. Dean attended National Louis University, he student taught in Chicago Public Schools (CPS) and obtained his secondary education certificate with a concentration in Mathematics and Computer Science. He has since worked in a supplementary education service, was a substitute teacher for Niles Township and continued tutoring. He states that he is "honored to be teaching at Chicago Waldorf School" and is happy to be the new faculty advisor for the CWS Robotics Club.
