Extracurriculars
At Chicago Waldorf School we pride ourselves on our wide range of extracurricular activities. Our focus on integrated learning does not stop at the end of the regular school curriculum, extending to a wide field of opportunities for students to explore areas of interest and community building after school hours.
Athletics
Athletics include basketball, volleyball, and flag football for Grades 6-8. High school students may participate in additional sports including soccer and swimming. Students often represent the school in club competition in a variety of other sports.
Clubs
Clubs provide a wide range of experiences for students as well as allowing opportunities for students to work and play in mixed-grade settings. All clubs are supervised by faculty.
Bee Keeping
Waldorf founder Rudolf Steiner was a visionary and pioneer in biodynamic farming as well as education and architecture. His lectures and writings continue to be standard-bearers for modern beekeepers. Our Bee Keeping Club offers students the chance to learn about these industrious creatures and their huge contributions to the ecosystem.
Circus Club
For excitement and adventure without leaving home and family, you can’t beat Circus Club. Clown techniques, aerial performing, juggling, tumbling – students learn all these skills and more. Year end performances are standing room only.
Student Newspaper
The high school student newspaper, The Waldorf Chronicle, is written and produced monthly by the high school journalism class. We cover school and neighborhood events, review plays and performances and follow the high school sports teams. Our annual April Fools issue never fails to catch some readers off guard. The Chronicle is distributed monthly to faculty, staff and grades 8 – 12.
Student Council
The High School Student Council is comprised of three elected representatives from each high school class. They meet biweekly with two faculty advisors to plan and organize a variety of school festivals and events. They also serve as the “face of the high school” and are active in student welcome events such as the 8th grade and 7th grade visiting days. Student Council is an appropriate venue for students to bring concerns about school policies for productive discussion.

Drama Club
The drama club meets weekly after school to enjoy theater games and improvisational work and to prepare a play or musical for the school community. It is open to grades 9-12 and past productions have included Godspell, The Dining Room, Alice in Wonderland and All in the Timing.
Golf Club
Golf Club is a non-competitive group of teachers and students who play golf together once per week in the spring.
Math Club
The students in the math club meet weekly after school to enjoy a variety of difficult mathematical challenges. In February, members compete in the Regional Competition of the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Qualifying students go on to the State Competition.
Student Action Committee
A student arm of the larger Building Intentional Community group, the Student Action Committee has developed a mandate of respect and support for students, by students. Including buddy work with students in younger grades, the SAC supports a safe school climate for students of all ages, races and ethnicities.
