Music is deeply embedded in the Waldorf curriculum. Beginning with simple songs in the Early Childhood program, students sing daily throughout their education, developing an ear for tone and harmony that builds in complexity. Instruments are also introduced as early as 1st grade with the lyre and pentatonic flute. In 3rd grade students choose a string instrument and by 5th grade they can expand their musical horizons into the woodwinds and brass if they choose. The high school students have additional musical electives to choose from, including African Drumming, Jazz Ensemble, Guitar, Chamber Ensemble, High School Improvisation, and Vocal Ensemble.
7th and 8th grade orchestra takes their music very seriously.
One of the most popular music electives in the high school is our African Drumming class. It's a favorite with the audience too.
5th and 6th grade chorus shares three-part harmony holiday songs with the community.
In 5th grade, students may choose to shift from string instruments to woodwinds or brass.
Middle School band and orchestra perform at the annual Holiday concert.
