We are walking we are walking as the leaves they tumble down
We are walking we are walking catch a leaf of golden brown...
And so our circle begins with a walk through the beautiful autumn day, gathering our golden leaves. This imagination is then reflected in a real walk around the block as we gather many colorful leaves for our wax paper leaf pictures. This has been a long tradition in the Bluebells class to make the wax paper leaf transparencies each fall. Some of the children completed theirs last week and the rest will bring them home this week. They are so easy and fun to make. We add a bit of color to them by grating bits of beeswax crayons and sprinkling them onto the leaves. The transparencies are made by ironing the wax paper pieces together with the leaf designs in the middle. The children love to design their pictures and add the extra color in. I do the ironing and then--voila, it is ready! We hold the pictures up to the light and the expression on their faces is full of joy and wonder!
This week the Bluebells will also be acting out our Michaelmas story titled "Michael and the Dragon". It is a lovely one to act out as the whole class can be a part of the action--lots of townspeople, knights, a king, a messenger, a brave princess, a dragon, and Michael, of course! Then as the week draws to a close we will see a lovely puppet play about a little friendly witch named Willow, as we prepare for Halloween. This will include the two- day children in the Halloween mood. We will also be baking pumpkin muffins and making homemade applesauce on Friday for a special autumn snack.
For the parents, we look forward to our parent evening on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7:00pm in the classroom. Please come and help make some pumpkin treasures for the children's trick-or-treat bags. We will discuss how the Bluebells are doing with some special emphasis on the six year old child in the mixed-age kindergarten and the first grade assessment process. I look forward to seeing you then.
