Five Little Pumpkins 10/28/12

Sunday, October 28, 2012

Five little pumpkins were sitting on a gate

The first one said, "Oh my, it's getting late!"

The second one said, "There are witches in the air."

The third one said,  "Well, I don't care!"

The fourth one said, "Let's have some Halloween fun!"

The fifth one said, "Let's run and run and run!"

When whoooooosh went the wind and out went the lights,

The five little pumpkins rolllllllllllllled out of sight.

The Bluebells love this finger play.  I have five little pumpkin finger puppets that we will introduce in circle this week.  Always a highlight of the Halloween circle time!  And so begins this somewhat busy week for parents across America as you work to create costumes and prepare for Halloween.  Thank you so much for your help in creating the slower, gentler Halloween experience for the children in the Bluebells classroom.   I'm sure that the autumn theme dress ups will be wonderful.  I am working to get my autumn fairy wings ready for the big day!

Tomorrow we will carve our big, round pumpkin.  To me, the carving of the jack-o-lantern begins this journey of the Festival of Light that leads us through the autumn days as they grow shorter and winter time approaches.  The lit up pumpkin brings joy and comfort to the children as we will light it during our snack time and story time this week.  You all have a copy of our Jack-o-lantern song.  I'm sure the children will help you learn it so you can sing it at home.   On Halloween day, we will go to the sideyard for the trick-or-treat nursery rhyme trail created for us by the seventh grade.  This is always a fun and amazing time as the children see the nursery rhymes come to life by the seventh grade students.  Thank you for your help in making the little pumpkins that will be one of the treats that they receive.

This past week, the two and five day children enjoyed a delicious autumn feast for snack as we made homemade applesauce and pumpkin muffins.  They also heard our Halloween story about Willow, the wee little witch whose very special wish comes true on Halloween night.

I look forward to meeting with you all on Thursday and Friday for our parent-teacher conferences.

Happy Halloween from Mrs. Culbert!
