Gym - Course Description 9th Grade
Thursday, August 1, 2013
Each class students are expected to arrive on time, prepared with a change of clothes and appropriate footwear to facilitate active participation. Students will enjoy regular exercises to improve flexibility, strength and stamina. Coursework will be a balance of team sports, and individual and small group conditioning, as well as artistic athletics.
In tumbling, students were introduced to plyometric exercises, basic tumbling techniques and partner balancing activities. In conditioning, students used resistance bands and games to strengthen large muscle groups, and to increase stamina. In basketball, students practiced the fundamentals of ball handling, shooting and court position toward better understanding of the game and more effectiveness on the court.
Students are always expected to demonstrate engagement that not only serves their own improvement, but that sets a positive tone for the class and for group progress. They should gain and demonstrate a growing knowledge and sensitivity for their own strengths and weaknesses and an increasing awareness of how their contributions affect their class negatively or positively.
