Becoming aware of the quality of space

In Ninth grade being able to move freely in every direction is practiced. Experiencing through gesture the elements of contraction and expansion, the feeling for gravity and levity, is brought into connection with music and poetry. For instance in ninth grade when the students study comedy and tragedy in literature lessons we can also experience through artistic means these qualities through various poems and music and try and feel these expressions through our own limbs. One can also listen to music and come to realize that also in the major and minor chords we can feel expressed there various moods connected to these same elements of inward and outward movements. The way we stand and lift our feet can express a release from gravity as well as a feeling of being bound to matter. Breathing between these extremes helps us to also find where balance is within ourselves through our own physical instrument.
Joy and Woe
Joy and Woe are woven fine,
A clothing for the soul divine,
Under every grief and pine,
Runs a joy with silken twine
It is right it must be so
Man was made for joy and Woe
And when this he rightly knows,
Safely throught he world he goes.
William Blake
