Mr. Trevillion’s 6th Grade Welcome Letter
Wednesday, August 28, 2013
Dear Sixth Grade Parents,
A new school year is about to begin. And for the 6th graders, who are busy meeting the challenges presented by their very real “12th year change”, a great new adventure begins. I look forward to exploring the nature of this change with you, as well as the ways in which we meet its demands CWS middle school, at our first class meeting on Wednesday, October 2nd.
By that time we will have almost completed our first block, which will be mineralogy, and we will already have experienced our caving trip to southern Indiana. This is a block which, both directly and indirectly, I have been preparing for all summer long. I hope to strike some rich veins with the students.
Besides mineralogy, sixth grade will offer the students entry points into (for them) entirely new domains of human knowledge and experience, including physics, geometry, and astronomy. We’ll meet that urge to conquer the world now flaming forth in the students with stories of a people who set out to do just that. I speak, of course, of the Romans.
In my next messageboard post you will find the 6th grade block plan for 2013-14, and the block descriptions. In the block plan you will find the dates of our three parent meetings:
• Wednesday, Oct. 2
• Wednesday Jan. 15
• Wednesday, April 7
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend.
The middle school experience will bring a number of changes into the daily school life of the students. Among these will be our school cell phone policy, detentions, and school attendance. (Yes, the world is closing in). I will be sending out information concerning these and other matters very shortly.
Ready, set, here we go…
