Welcome to 2nd Grade German!
Friday, August 22, 2014
Students in 2nd grade German will learn new vocabulary, listen to and participate in different animal fables, Grimm's fairy tales and a German saint story. The vocabulary in the second grade is based on seasons, weather and natural flora in Germany. They will also recite poems, sing about and learn various greetings of the day, the days of the week, months of the year as well as some clothing according to the season and classroom items. They will practice counting in different groups of 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s up to 100 in German. Through picture dictation, the students will draw a picture I am illustrating orally with current vocabulary and then they will describe it back in simple sentences. And because it is good for them and they love it--we will jump rope!
The 2nd graders first German block began at the beginning of the school year and will last through mid-October. Our World Language program is taught in blocks where grades 1,3,5 and 7 are learning Spanish while grades 2, 4, 6 and 8 are learning German. Every 5-6 weeks we alternate which means each grade sees both German and Spanish three times a year in blocks of 5-6 weeks and within each week the students have four classes a week for 40 minutes to an hour.
