10th Grade English A: Welcome and Course Description

To begin, this course will take a historical appoach to the American short story from Romanticism to Modernism, concentrationg on authors such as Washington Irving, Egar Allan Poe, Fredrick Douglas, Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, William Faulkner, Willa Cather, Zora Neale Hurston and Alice Walker.  We will explore the lavish culture and lifestyle of the Roaring Twenties through the lens of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, and will summarize by taking a whirwind tour of the major world religions.
